Salmonella contamination leads to sesame seed recall

All Stonemill sesame seeds, in 60 gram containers, have been recalled by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.

Packets of the contaminated seeds were sold at supermarkets across Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

"Food products contaminated with Salmonella may cause illness if consumed," Food Standards warned.

Salmonella symptoms include headache, fever, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.

These symptoms typically start between six hours and three days after the contaminated food is eaten and last for four to seven days.

"Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice," the recall notice warned.

Anyone with a packet of Stonemills sesame seeds is urged to not eat the product.

Consumers are entitled to a full refund at any ALDI store, Food Standards said.
