As a 32-year-old man stepped off a plane in Sydney police were there to arrest him over the alleged hit-and-run death of a man in his 70s.

The 79-year-old victim died on Abell Road, Melonba in Sydney's west after he was allegedly hit by the driver at 11.45pm on June 30.

Emergency services were called to the scene after receiving reports a man was injured on the roadside.
A public appeal was launched to find the driver.
On July 10 at 11.30am NSW Police, Australian Federal Police and Border Force officers arrested the man as he returned to Australia on an international flight.
He was charged with failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and not giving particulars to police.
The 32-year-old was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on July 11.
