The proposed Salvaged project will be filmed by production company MindRiot Entertainment.
Social media users are pointing out that it might be "Too Soon!" after the OceanGate tragedy on June 18.
User @dimmym7 said: "I'm not gonna say this is a surprise. It was a very big story across the nation [America], but around the world."
"Ultimately, it was very unfortunate that nobody survived, but that also 'kinda' adds into why this is so weird, it's so soon.
"Not even three or four months ago and they are already taking about making a movie about it".

The proposed film would depict the events that led to the implosion of the OceanGate submersible Titan on a voyage to view the wreck of the Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
Director of the 1997 film Titanic, James Cameron, has slammed the project as "offensive".
