North-West Coasters who were lucky enough to be out after dark on Thursday, or who had been watching the aurora forecast and knew what to expect, were treated to the dancing beams and surreal skyscapes of the Aurora Australis.
Coaster Rusli Hashim RH said the evening's lightshow was spectacular and a great opportunity to photograph the incredible colours.
He said that the KP index - the measure of disturbance in the earth's magnetic field which causes the aurora - was high throughout the day on Wednesday.
"I could see with my naked eye the beams, she was dancing," Mr Rusli said.

He said he achieved his photos using an eight to ten second exposure with a low ISO on his Sony digital camera between 10pm and midnight on Wednesday.
Many aurora chasers shared their images with the large Aurora Australis Tasmania community on Facebook.
Mr Rusli said it was nice to be a part of such a passionate community, and enjoyed seeing other hobby photographers out for the same reason on Thursday night.
