Andrew Homann wins 2022 Peter Blank Sprint at Terang

High Cost, with young apprentice Lachlan Neindorf in the saddle, hung on to beat the favourite Sacred Palace in the 1125-metre contest.

Homann, whose dad trained Blackson to win the 1976 Warrnambool Grand Annual Steeplechase, was excited to win the feature race on the seven-event program.

"My late dad Peter tried to win the Peter Blank Sprint on a few occasions," he told The Standard.

"It was a race Peter always wanted to win as a trainer but he had no luck on a few occasions.

"The Peter Blank Sprint was an iconic sprint race when we were training in Warrnambool.

"It's just great to come here and win with High Cost. I thought he would run well because he had a hefty weight drop from his last couple of starts."

Former Warrnambool trainer Mitch Freedman made a successful hit-and-run visit to Terang on Sunday.

Freedman took two horses to Terang and left with two winners.

He was successful with the well-backed first starter Patrika Gold and Serene Moon. Both won maidens over 1200 metres.

Freedman said he was confident Patrika Gold would run well after trialling up well for her debut.

"Patrika Gold has been in our system for quiet a while," he said.

"She's fragile physically and mentally but is just starting to put it altogether. We've always had a good opinion of her.

"She had trialled up at Kyneton and I've been happy with her work since that trial. Serene Moon deserved the win. She had been unlucky at her last two starts."

Underrated jockey Jarrod Fry rode Patrika Gold and Serene Moon.
