For most people it's achieving their learner driver's license, getting their first job or excelling at school and community sport.
But Tsehay Hawkins? She's joined one of the most successful Australian musical groups of all time.
The teen from Bargo, in the Wollondilly region in far south Sydney, was announced as the newest member of The Wiggles on Tuesday, taking over the yellow skivvy from Emma Watkins.
"It's amazing, I'm honoured to be part of such an amazing group and I'm so grateful," Tsehay said.
"I'm just over the moon. It's been an amazing day."
The Wollondilly local has been part of the Wiggles family for about a year, touring as a 'Wiggly dancer' before being announced as a new cast member for Fruit Salad TV in August.
Now she's set to become every local kid's favourite member of the iconic, colourful group.
Tsehay, who was born in Ethiopia and raised by her adoptive family in Bargo, has always loved The Wiggles.
"They're the reason I started dancing," she said.
"I was always listening to the Wiggles albums with mum and just always dancing."
Tsehay is a celebrated Latin dancer and is looking forward to infusing her dance roots into her new gig.
"Latin dancing helps with the rhythm and the music of the Wiggles, and I hope I can bring a big of a new flavour and style to the dances," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
She said her family and friends were thrilled with her big news and thought it was "really cool" to see her in the famous yellow skivvy.
Tsehay said she hoped she could serve as an inspiration for kids in Macarthur to dream big.
"In Bargo there's not too much going in the [entertainment] area, but the kids have so much passion," she said.
"I want local kids to know they can pursue whatever they want to do.
"There's no reason not to choose their passion.
"Enjoy the music, sing and dance along."
The Wiggles are heading on a tour of regional NSW next year, including a stop at WIN Entertainment Centre at Wollongong on Sunday, April 3.
Tickets go on sale on Friday.
Tsehay said she can't wait to get back on stage after being in lockdown and she's "very, very excited" to meet all the young fans.
