Mat Battistello, Will Jamison to coach South Warrnambool's top sides

The Roosters open grade side will be coached by Will Jamison with 2021 mentor Leesa Battistello to assist him. Jamison was Leesa's assistant last season as the Roosters stormed to a top-two finish.

Leesa's husband Mat has been reappointed as the club's senior football coach.

Mat will coach the Roosters' senior football side, which finished third with 10 wins and two losses this campaign, for a fourth year next season.

Jamison, a former Victorian and Australian men's teams captain, said he was looking forward to working alongside Leesa again next season.

"I'm really excited at the potential we have with the current squad and I'm looking forward to taking on the program and seeing what further developments we can make," he said.

"I assisted Leesa last year and we had a successful season and we're eager to work together in season 2022 as we know there's another couple of gears we can take the team up to.

"We (Leesa and Will) have a fantastic dynamic we compliment each others' coaching styles. I'm a little more technical and strategic while Leesa is heart and soul. We bounce ideas off each other and that works well."

The 35-year-old, who has relocated from Melbourne to Warrnambool, has coached and played with Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels in the Victorian Netball League.

He has also coached development squads in the Victorian Churches Netball Association.

Jamison, who plays as a defender, said he was looking forward to the continued development of his side.

"Probably most excited about where we can take the team particularly in the open grade," he said.

"We made significant progress this year and there's still incremental improvements we can make. I'm looking forward to getting stuck into that and also our wider netball program.

"We have an exciting squad and I want to develop the entire pathway across junior and senior teams."

Jamison hopes to continue the positive culture Leesa has instilled in the Roosters' playing group.

He said they showed a great appetite to work as a team, learn and develop their skills.

The experienced netballer said his open grade side was excited to get going but he plans to give his players a decent rest before jumping into preparations for the 2022 season.

President Steve Harris said the club was thrilled to have locked in their two senior coaches for next season.

"We are thrilled that Mat will continue his work with our group as we build towards 2022," he said.

"Will brings state-level netball experience as a player and has a passion and a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring to our squad.

"We are thrilled that he has decided to make South Warrnambool his future sporting home."
