Noorat Show committee make unanimous decision to cancel due to COVID-19

Show president Monica Heffernan said the committee made a unanimous decision on Tuesday night to not proceed with the show on November 20.

She said the call was made with the community's health in mind, as well as the challenge for organisers in the current COVID-19 climate.

She said the committee didn't want to compromise the popular event and put on "half a show". It follows the cancellation of this year's Warrnambool, Camperdown, Port Fairy and Koroit shows.

"It's the second year in a row but we're not the only ones in this," Mrs Heffernan said.

"Most of the ag shows in Victoria have cancelled. There's not too many that will go ahead."

She said it was too hard to host with the amount of hoops organisers had to jump through. Prior to the latest Delta outbreak she was optimistic. "But with the rules that've been put into place we just can't. We can only have 300 people at the moment," she said.

She said it was looking at running a cattle and poultry show in the coming months. It would also run the Victorian Agricultural Society homecraft events and the Rural Ambassador Award, with winners qualifying for a group one event and to go on to represent the region at the Melbourne Show.

"I'm optimistic it will go ahead next year," she said. "I feel sorry for the community because it's always a great event and one the whole community looks forward to. It's such a well-received event and it's good for the town," Mrs Heffernan said
