Warrnambool's Nathan Sobey produces first Olympic points as Australia finishes atop its pool

The Warrnambool export scored four points after earning 12 minutes' playing time in the Boomers' 89-76 win against Germany on Saturday night.

Sobey also collected one rebound, dished off an assist and managed a steal as Australia made it three wins from three games in the pool stage.

The Boomers will now turn their attention to the quarter-finals after taking a step closer to their first Olympic medal.

Australia trailed 22-18 at quarter-time but turned the momentum to be four points up at half-time.

Sobey scored his four points in the first half.

The Boomers drained the first six points of the third term before Germany went on a 10-0 run to level the scores at 50-apiece.

Australia, with esteemed coach Brian Goorjian at the helm, wrested back control to be up 66-59 at the last break.

Sobey spent a chunk of the final term on court and dished off a creative pass to Jock Landale for a dunk with 1.21 left on the clock.

Landale, who has interest from NBA clubs, finished with 18 points, only second to point guard Patty Mills (24).

Nick Kay (16) was also effective for the Boomers in the absence of fellow big man Aron Baynes, who is sidelined with a neck injury.
