Too early to say if Victorian lockdown will be lifted, Premier Daniel Andrews says

There were 11 community cases of coronavirus reported in the state on Sunday and all were isolating for the whole time.

"The strategy is working," Mr Andrews said.

He said more than 20,000 people isolating at home and the day 13 tests were rolling around for thousands of people.

More than 32,000 people were tested on Saturday.

"In broader terms, the strategy is working but is still too early for me to be able to tell Victorian what will happen at midnight on Tuesday night," Mr Andrews said

"There is still a couple of days to go."

He cited the outbreak in an apartment block in Melbourne saying things could change quickly.

"It can be quite dynamic. You can be thrown off course," he said.

"At this stage things are going well."

Mr Andrews labelled those who protested the lockdowns in Melbourne on Saturday as selfish.

"That's not the behaviour we want to see," he said.

"We don't want to see people out and about selfishly putting their point of view ahead of the health and wellbeing of others.

"Everyone is entitled to an opinion but you are not entitled to put people in danger.

"I just hope that it doesn't have an impact on cases and the sort of rules we all have to live under.

"It is very difficult to shut a protest like that down without that itself becoming an infection control nightmare.

"We can't vaccinate against selfishness. These people should be ashamed."

Mr Andrews said there would be meetings on Sunday night where they would look at the data and the case for lifting some of the lockdown restrictions.

There were seven people in hospital and two in ICU, one on a ventilator.

Victorian contact tracing chief Jeroen Weimar said the mass protests in Melbourne on Saturday were a curve ball the state didn't need.

"What's so frustrating is that when you've got six million people in lockdown, you've got 32,000 people getting tested, you've got 20,000 people in iso, 17,000 people getting vaccinated, a small minority having a self-indulgent tantrum is just a really frustrating thing at this critical point in time," he said.
