Tapper, who hails from Hamilton, and Hu lost 11-5, 11-9, 11-1, 11-0 to France's Emmanuel Lebesson and Jia Nan Yuan (8) at Tokyo Metropolitan Gym on Saturday.
The French got off to a flyer winning the first game comfortably.
The Aussie pair battled hard in the second game to make their opponents earn it.
But the French played with fearlessness in third game to wrestle back the ascendency.
It was difficult for the Aussies to return with Lebesson and Yuan sending lightning quick balls their way.
The fourth game started in much the same way and the Australians called a time-out after a few points.
It was clear the Aussies had one more chance to turn things around.
But the French kept sending rockets over the net and took out the final game 11-0.
Tapper was also selected for the teams events at the Tokyo Olympics which is on Sunday August 1. Australia's women's team plays Germany.
