Will Couch, Tim McIntyre dominate as Koroit exerts Hampden league dominance

The six-time Hampden league reigning premier flexed its muscle in that department against Portland on Saturday.

Sam Dobson, who is two shy of Camperdown's Sam Gordon on the league goal-kicking tally with 43, booted just two in the Saints' 19.8 (122) to 5.8 (38) win at Victoria Park.

Dynamic duo Will Couch (six goals) and Tim McIntyre (five) combined for 11 majors while teenager Paddy O'Sullivan chimed in with three in his best senior game for the club.

Koroit coach Chris McLaren said the side's ability to consistently kick more than 100 points a match - they've done it in nine of their 10 games this season - was pleasing.

"We're finding a way to score and spread the scoring out," he said.

"'Couchy' kicked five first-half goals. He was on fire.

"McIntyre was the other way. He had one at half-time and really finished strongly.

"Paddy had a change of role today and he's a young player we're really excited about.

"He's had a rapid rise, it's been awesome. He played more onball and a little bit of forward."

Paddy's brother Jack also provided a target in the forward half for the Saints while the versatile Ben Dobson spent time in attack too.

Koroit expects its scoring power to receive a boost next week too with Jarrod Korewha (elbow) "ahead of schedule".

"He's been training at Werribee (in the VFL) for a couple of weeks now and they're pretty happy if he gets through training this week for him to play (for us)," McLaren said.

The premiership coach said his top-placed side, which now has a 9-1 win-loss record, was challenged at times by Portland which is also sitting in the top five.

"At times they moved the ball well and their tackle pressure was good," he said.

"It was probably just a few skill errors that hurt them at times and we were able to capitalise. They competed well most of the day but depth is probably a bit of a challenge for Portland at the moment."

McLaren said while they would "always find something we could do better", he was proud of his players and wanted them to enjoy the rewards of their hard work.

"They are playing well and deserve it at the moment," he said.
