Cobden's Lara and Grace Taylor to play 2021 Netball Victoria association championships together

Cobden's Lara and Grace Taylor are part of the league's 17 and under side which will vie for a top-two finish at the Ballarat-based competition on Sunday.

The twins, 16, play different roles on court. They're teammates in the Bombers' 17 and under team.

Lara, who also features in the Bombers' open netball side, can play wing defence, goal defence and centre.

Grace, who plays division one, is more at home in wing attack and goal attack.

Lara joked they'd had "a few blues" in their backyard battles.

"We're both really competitive," she said.

Lara expects to play a midcourt role for the Hampden league.

"We have a couple of people who are really tall which will help us out a lot down the goal end," she said.

"We have some pretty good defenders and good midcourters as well.

"I'll most likely be playing wing defence and centre. I'll probably be playing there because I am a bit smaller than the other goal defenders in our Hampden team in Jedah Huf and Maddie Green.

"I like getting intercepts, it's pretty fun. With centre I have only started playing there so it's a bit of a new position."

The top-two in each age group at the association championships will progress to the next stage in Melbourne.

"We've had a few trainings and we had a practice match on Monday against a Melbourne team," Lara said.

"We went pretty well."

Lara, who also has two brothers, stepped into Cobden's open netball side this season.

So far she's been part of a nine-game winning streak.

"We haven't lost yet so it's been pretty fun and a good experience," Lara said.

The Mercy Regional College student, who has an interest in fitness, has strong ties to the club.

Her dad Brett is heavily involved.

"He gives us lots of tips and seems to think he's pretty good," Lara joked.

Hampden league will have three teams - 17 and under, 15 and under and 13 and under - at the association championships.
