Adam Wines kicks seven goals as North Warrnambool Eagles notch win

Adam Wines' versatility was on display as North Warrnambool Eagles shook off a plucky Port Fairy at Gardens Oval on Saturday.

Eagles coach Adam Dowie said Wines kicked half of his haul in the final 15 minutes to help them to a 17.10 (112) to 7.14 (56) win.

Dowie said the score line favoured his team and didn't give the Seagulls, who have just one win from six matches, the kudos they deserved.

"They served it up to us," he said.

"They pressured us really well and we felt Jordan Dillon and Ben Mugavin were able to get first hands in the ruck but there were patches where they (the Seagulls) were winning clearances.

"They were a bit different to what we expected. They were taking it from one side to the other, switching play and pushing up and pressing up."

Dowie said the Eagles "kicked a lot of goals late".

He said the team, coming off a win against reigning premier and flag favourite Koroit, dropped in some areas.

"It's the same style, we just didn't execute well," he said.

"I think we generally made good decisions but our skills, considering the week before when I felt it was as good as we could play, at times we were really poor and a bit indecisive."

Debutant Jack Burke impressed with his contested marking. He also kicked a goal.

"He didn't look out of place," Dowie said.

Port Fairy coach Winis Imbi took positives out of the result.

"The method was a lot better," he said.

"There was a lot more system.

"We were mindful we need to build our own blueprint so there were aspects where we able to take away North's strengths but they really punished us on the turnover and their ball movement at time was great."
