Robbie's Star ran third behind The Statesman and Instigator on a soft track at his last outing in the Galleywood Hurdle at Warrnambool and meets them on a dryer surface on Sunday.
The wetter the better for my bloke. I'm undecided if we'll run in the Australian. I'll make a final decision on Sunday morning.
- Peter Chow
"Robbie's Star is a wet tracker," Chow told The Standard.
"It's a very smart field of hurdlers in the Australian Hurdle.
"The wetter the better for my bloke.
"I'm undecided if we'll run in the Australian. I'll make a final decision on Sunday morning.
"The track in the Galleywood was soft and we couldn't beat them so I reckon it's going to be tough to beat them on a better rated track.
"There's no rain forecast but we'll just wait and see what happens."
Promising Warrnambool-based jumps jockey Ronan Short has the ride on Robbie's Star.
Instigator lost no admirers with his second placing in the Galleywood Hurdle on May 5 and has trained on well for the Australian Hurdle, according to local trainer Aaron Purcell.
"Instigator is in great shape leading into the Australian Hurdle," Purcell said.
"He's a very good jumper. I thought his run in the Galleywood was good.
"I think he's improved from that run. With any luck in the run I'm expecting him to be in the finish on Sunday."
Instigator will be ridden by Braidon Small in the Australian Hurdle.
Double Bluff, a stablemate of Instigator lines up in the $50,000 restricted hurdle with local jockey Luke Willams in the saddle.
Williams can claim three kilograms on Double Bluff.
