Ms Anderson will set off with fellow nana, Heywood's Carmel Clarke, in August for the two-week trek as part of the Variety Bash fundraiser.
The trip will go via Deniliquin, Renmark, Wilpena Pound, Marree, Birdsville, Longreach, Springsure, Yeppoon to Great Keppel Island, but they won't be sticking to the main roads.
And they plan to stop off at schools between Renmark and Birdsville along the way to deliver the children's books to students. "Books are important. I've been a big believer in books. My three granddaughters I'm always buying books for," she said.
Collins Booksellers in Liebig Street are helping Ms Anderson with the book donation idea, and people who want to donate a book towards the cause can purchase one instore at a discounted price.
Ms Anderson said she had put aside 30 books that she would purchase herself but needed help paying for the extra 70 she wanted to take.
Her granddaughter, Milly Tate, 12, has been helping her with the book fund-raiser. "Books are literally like a ray of sunshine to light up your day," she said. "Books can take you places, unlike movies."
In April, Ms Anderson started raising money for the Variety Bash and has a target of $5000. Sponsorship money so far has reached $3080.
An idea to cover her converted 1986 Nissan Navara with stickers has so far helped raise $691.85, and there are tins at Norton Ford and Silver Fox cafe.
