Port Fairy's Amy Armstrong launches new alcohol-free initiative

But now, the Port Fairy local has launched her own website Dry but Wet which details her transition to non-alcohol life and founded the Squeaky Wheel; a one-stop-shop to enable people to challenge venues on drinking options.

"I'm so energized by people's interest in the non-alcohol space," she said. "We've had a great amount of submissions from venues registering their options and people's responses have been awesome.

"This shows there is a demand for more options and people want to ask about non-alcohol drinks but they might be too scared or not sure what to say."

Mrs Armstrong has worked with a number of Port Fairy venues to introduce non-alcohol beverages to their menus as well as the town's IGA which now stocks a huge variety of beverage options.

"I'm a (very) social person and venues having little or no consideration for the dry punter gets me all fired up," she said.

"I want people to become the 'squeaky wheel' and help create change within the hospitality industry to make them realise that just because you're not drinking alcohol doesn't mean your palette is craving the majesty of soda water constantly.

"Friends of mine who I never thought would try it are embracing non-alcoholic options. It's made me realise I'm not alone in this."

As well as offering punters the tools and tips on how they should approach hospitality venues to create change, Squeaky Wheel also has a growing list of venues country-wide that have recognised the need for adult non-alcoholic beverages.

The go-to guide for booze-less revelers is also a platform for hospitality venues to add themselves to a list of venues that embrace all drinking customers.

Mrs Armstrong has also teamed up with Port Fairy's Ministry of Ombibulous Studies to launch their dry menu on May 27 with a party.
