Warrnambool's first home brewing retail shop opens

Warrnambool's Beau MacLean has transformed Twelve Tables (formally Bottega Toscana) into the city's first home brewing retail shop.

Hoppo Brew Centre offers full home brewing systems and starter kits to make beer, cider, alcoholic and non-alcoholic ginger beer and kombucha.

Mr MacLean, who moved to the south-west about 12 months ago, is part of the Warrnambool Home Brew Association, a near 50-member Facebook group dedicated to linking fellow home brewers.

He said the idea for the retail shop stemmed from a gap in the market for the city's beer lovers.

Mr MacLean said brewing was a fun hobby with starter kits going for about $100 and making 23 litre of beer.

"After you get the kit you probably pay about $20 for 23 litres of beer," he said.

"It is the equivalent of two-and-a-half cases from a bottle shop."

Mr MacLean said he could order in specific products to help consumers save on shipping costs.

He also provides canning and keg services.

A former defence force medic, Mr MacLean's new shop at 74 Liebig Street sells Australian War fighter coffee and other coffee-related products.

Hoppo Brew Centre is open 10am-5pm Monday to Friday and 10am-2pm on Saturdays.
