For more than 40 years Mr Brown has been selling badges in the main street and said this year he'd had a great response.
"About 45 years ago we started selling them in the industrial area," he said.
"We'd walk that area for a couple of days.
"Then we got a bit old and we started selling them down the street.
"I've been in the same spot for about 40-odd years.
"You get to know people and have a chat with people."
Mr Brown said he often raised more than $2000 and the Warrnambool appeal raised between $60,000 to $70,000. Mr Brown was called up for National Service and will attend the dawn service on Sunday.
"It will be good to see a lot of friends and mates," he said.
"I only hope the people that can't turn up still do the candlelight vigil."
All money raised from the appeal goes to the RSL.
