Old Collegians' A grade has new defensive line-up for 2021

And fans will get their first chance to see Old Collegians' defensive trio in action when the Warriors face Merrivale in a Good Friday blockbuster at Davidson Oval.

Reliable goal defence Emily Porra has a couple of new faces helping her keep opposition teams at bay this Warrnambool and District league A grade season.

Former Koroit player Grace Bell (wing defence) and Emily Jansen Van Beek (goal keeper) will be by her side.

"They're very good players, it makes my job easy," a thrilled Porra said.

Porra, who had her second child last year, wasn't going to play in 2020.

But she's raring to go this season.

"It nice to get back into fitness and have a focus outside of being a mum and work," she said.

Bell and Jansen Van Beek were ready to play for the Warriors in 2020 but the season was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bell, who was best on court in a division two premiership with Koroit in the Hampden league, said they had been communicating well.

"They're really positive, they encourage everyone and they just let you know what's happening down the court," she said of the defensive unit.

Bell explained she finally made the move to the Warriors after years of convincing from her friend Erin Arms who plays A reserve.

Bell is no stranger to a big Good Friday game having been involved in the concept with the Saints.

Jansen Van Beek, a Warrnambool resident, said she had enjoyed her time at her new club.

"I was approached by (coach) Jess (Toleman) at the end of 2019 and I was just ready for a change and I was sick of travelling back to Timboon so I decided to come to Warrnambool and it's been great ever since," she said.

The goal keeper had high praise for her teammates.

"We've really started to gel together and she's easy to work with, it's going really well," she said of Porra.

"Grace is a really strong presence and just an insane talent so she'll be really good at wing defence."

Jansen Van Beek, who won three junior flags with the Demons, has had a great pre-season.

"I feel like the break was really beneficial and I've had a lot of time to improve and work on my fitness so I'm actually more excited than I was last year," she said.
