A man has escaped from a house fire at Koroit this morning.
Warrnambool police Acting Sergeant Stuart Revell said neighbours of the Penshurst-Warrnambool Road property noticed the fire about 6am Thursday.
"A man aged in his 40s was inside at the time," he said.
"He escaped by exiting through the rear door of the address but suffered burns to his face, hands and feet."
It is not yet known how the fire started or if the man was asleep at the time.
Acting Sergeant Revell said the man was being airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
He said the home was totally destroyed.
"Fire investigators will come from Melbourne today and we will know more at that point," Acting Sergeant Revell said.
A CFA spokeswoman said the fire was still going but was under control.
The Penshurst-Warrnambool Road is currently closed to traffic.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman previously said a child was believed to be inside at the time of the fire. That was incorrect.
