Jamie Veal wins second consecutive Victorian Sprintcar Title

The 32-year-old started on pole after two heat wins and survived a mid-race fight with a flying Darren Mollenoyux to break away to victory in the 30-lap feature.

Tasmanian Jock Goodyer and Portland's Brock Hallett rounded out the podium. Daniel Pestka and John Vogels rounded out the top five.

Veal, who joined his father Ken as a Victorian champion last year, was pleased with the back-to-back victory.

"It felt pretty decent. I tried to work on the last bit of the race and got caught snoozing there for the middle of the race as Molly got me," he said after the race.

"I knew we could come on a bit at the end and I was hoping for a bit more lapped traffic but it didn't come but I was lucky enough to find enough through the middle there and get past him.

"He did have a couple of goes at the wall but it was a good race.

"It is always good to win. Vic titles are hard to win and I've been racing for a fair while now and I hadn't got one so it's good to get two and hopefully keep it rolling."

Mollenoyux took the lead around the 20-lap to go mark but after tapping the wall numerous times he was forced to retire from the race, bringing on a yellow flag and a slight pause with two to run.

On the reset Veal kept Goodyer and Hallett at bay to secure his second victory in the titles.

The reigning Australian champion said he was a little too cautious at the beginning of the race.

"I was too careful at the start and when he (Mollenoyux) got past me I should have been a bit more after him," he said.

"The car came to me a bit more in the end thankfully as we weren't too great at the start. Once we burnt a bit of fuel and it felt real good it was just about picking my time."

Jordyn charge, Peter Doukas and Ryan Jones tangled out of turn two in the opening lap of the feature.

Doukas and Charge returned to the race and finished seventh and eighth respectively but Jones was forced to finish his race there.

Rusty Hickman and Glen Sutherland pulled in early on with Grant Anderson and Tate Frost also joining them.

The B-main was won by Jessie Attard with Charge, Matt Reed, Grant Anderson, Ross Jarred and Tate Frost joining them in the feature.

The C-main and the shootout were cancelled due to rain just before the second set of heats.

Veal (heats four, seven), Mollenoyux (one), Goodyer (two), Anderson (three), Attard (five), Andy Caruana (six) and Hickman (eight) all secured wins in the heats.

Goodyer was fastest in qualifying with a time of 10.667 seconds.
