The 21-year-old, a fast bowler, was named in a youthful 12-man squad for the state's domestic one-day clash against Tasmania on Wednesday.
It marks a stunning fortnight for Warrnambool and District Cricket Association graduates after former Port Fairy spinner Joe Medew-Ewen played his first Sheffield Shield match for South Australia across this past weekend.
Woodford export Tommy Jackson is also understood to be pressing for state selection on the back of a solid 41.5-run average in Victorian Premier Cricket for Geelong.
Couch has also been plying his trade at Geelong since returning from Melbourne Renegades' coronavirus-enforced Big Bash League hub.
His premier cricket form - 10 wickets in four matches including a four-scalp haul against Melbourne Cricket Club - has caught the eye of selectors.
Couch, who represented Warrnambool at Melbourne Country Week as a teenager, is one of seven players under 22 who could potentially feature for Victoria at Junction Oval.
"With such a busy schedule we're taking the opportunity to rest some of the players who have carried a heavy load in our recent (Sheffield Shield) games," Victorian Chairman of Selectors Andrew Lynch said.
"This also provides an opportunity for some of the younger players within the squad and we're looking forward to seeing what they can produce on Wednesday."
