Marcus, 18, hopes being part of the Cats' program, as well as playing for NAB League club Greater Western Victoria Rebels, will enhance his chances of getting drafted into the AFL.
The South Warrnambool export, who is working at disability and mental health support group Wellways, said it would be nice to play alongside Liam in the Cats' famous blue and white hoops.
"We've played a fair bit of sport together but VFL is probably one of the top competitions so it would be fun to play together, " Marcus said.
"He is living in Geelong and looking pretty fit at the moment."
The Herbert brothers will join fellow Hampden exports Mitch Burgess (Warrnambool) and Isaac Wareham (Terang Mortlake) at Geelong.
Marcus wants to embrace the challenge.
"The ultimate plan is to get drafted at the end of the year," he said.
"Geelong is the main goal (for now). The Rebels and Geelong will be the two best opportunities for me to showcase a bit of talent.
"It will be really good playing with some experienced players in the VFL and I'm hoping to take some of that wisdom from the older blokes to the Rebels as well."
The Hampden league, NAB League and VFL all failed to get off the ground due to the pandemic. Marcus has spent his long off-season boxing and working on his fitness.
He's identified areas of his game for improvement with goal-kicking and endurance atop the list.
"I am hoping to be a consistent player for the team," Marcus said.
"I'd like to be a goal-kicking mid because that (kicking goals) is ultimately how you win the game."
