Up to 100 people allowed to attend Warrnambool council meeting

The public were banned from attending council meetings under strict COVID-19 rules imposed by the state government after the pandemic hit Australia in March last year.

Limited numbers were allowed to attend just a handful of the meetings during the past year, the meetings instead being live-streamed for the first time.

The meetings will continue to be live-streamed despite the return of members from the public.

It will also be the first time Warrnambool's seven new councillors will have conducted a public meeting with a crowd in attendance.

Mayor Vicki Jellie said to be COVID-safe meeting chairs would be socially distanced and people would have to scan in.

"It's still going to be live-streamed, we'll continue that whatever happens," she said.

"I think that's a positive that has come out of COVID, that people can still sit at home and watch it.

"For us to have the community in the room is what we want."

Those wanting to attend the meeting at the Lighthouse Theatre studio have been asked to register at www.trybooking.com/BOPEK to help the council ensure compliance with health regulations.
