Terang and District Lions Club Fun Run/Walk rescheduled

The popular run from Noorat to Terang was scheduled for this Friday.

Fun run coordinator Kerrin McKenzie said the event was postponed due to current state government coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

It comes on the back of the recent state-wide five-day lockdown which ended last week.

"After the five-day lockdown they lifted restrictions but not all restrictions," he said.

"Because we often have more than 400 competitors we had to move it down the track and hopefully those restrictions will be lifted then."

The state government informed McKenzie there were changes to density requirements for public events scheduled between 11.59pm on Wednesday, February 17 and 11.59pm on Friday, February 26.

McKenzie is hoping to attract good numbers in a month's time.

"It's always a great community event," he said.

He explained the SES, rotary club, Terang College students and many other members of the community helped make it happen each year. "The money raised this year will be going towards the Terang Lions' walking track around the golf course in Terang," he said.

The 5.92-kilometre walk starts at 6.30pm while the run starts at 6.45pm.

The start line is at Noorat and the finish is at the Terang RSL Hall. Those wishing to participate can register on the night.

There are numerous trophies up for grabs including open male and female, first male runner over 50, first female over 45, first veteran male, first veteran female as well as juniors.

There will be free buses from Terang to transport participants to the start line. Warrnambool's Tom Hynes won the men's race last year while Warrnambool's Rachel Ayres won the women's.
