Warrnambool and District Cricket Association locks in new junior final dates

The under 17 and under 13 deciders are bound for Port Fairy's Avery's Paddock and JJ Colledge Oval on Labour Day - March 8 - while the under 15 grand final will take place on March 7 at Allansford's Uebergang Oval.

The snap lockdown, which ran from February 12 until February 17, meant semi-final clashes had to be postponed as community sport ground to a halt. The flow-on effect meant the association had no choice but to revise its grand final dates.

WDCA chairman Gordon McLeod was delighted to lock in the dates.

"We had to make some other adjustments too, as you can't play under 15 and under 17 games on the same day as there could potentially be some crossover of players," he said.

"We'll normally have the under 13s at Mack Oval and under 17s at Reid Oval so they're nice and close together. We thought with Reid Oval not available it'd be good to have them at Port Fairy as people can go between the two and watch (as they would normally)."

McLeod said the under 13 decider was shaping up as a "cracker".

Mortlake-Cobden scored a comprehensive triumph over Koroit in the semi to book its place in the grand final this past Saturday.

Nestles Gold and Merrivale remain locked in a contest, with Nestles 8-26 chasing the Tigers' 81-run total.

"The other games in the junior finals should be fairly competitive," McLeod said.

"They're very hard to win."

McLeod said both Avery's Paddock and Uebergang Oval stood up as popular and consistent turf pitches.
