The Standard picks five unmissable matches.
GOOD FRIDAY
Who: Old Collegians v Merrivale
When: Friday, April 2 at Davidson Oval
Why: Merrivale got the chocolates in a 2019 semi-final and fans will be keen to see the Tigers' new players in action. Jess Haberfield (Dennington) and Jess McKenzie (North Warrnambool Eagles) are in the mix for a round one debut. The new-look Warriors have recruits Grace Bell (Koroit), Hannah Garner (South Rovers) and Emily Jansen Van Beek (Timboon Demons).
BULDOGS' BIG TEST
Who: Merrivale v Panmure
When: Saturday, May 8 at Merrivale Recreation Reserve
Why: Panmure has arguably recruited the best of any team with Jess Rohan, Lisa Pender, Abby Sheehan (South Rovers), Mandy Van Rooy (South Warrnambool) and Lily Lourey (Terang Mortlake) among the acquisitions. How will the Bulldogs go against the reigning premier?
OLD FOES BATTLE
Who: Dennington v Nirranda
When: Saturday, May 22 at Dennington Recreation Reserve
Why: The best rivalry of the past five years with each team claiming at least one premiership. Both will be fighting hard to be at the pointy end of the season again.
CHAMPIONS MEET
Who: Nirranda v Merrivale
When: Saturday, May 29 at Nirranda Recreation Reserve
Why: The Blues will be after revenge after the Tigers won a one-goal thriller in the 2019 grand final. Will be exciting to see Jo Couch back after she didn't play with Nirranda in 2019.
YOUNG GUNS
Who: Allansford v Russells Creek
When: Saturday, May 29 at Allansford Recreation Reserve
Why: Both teams are big on developing youth and have brought in experienced players to support their youngsters. The Cats have goalie recruit Asha Roche while Creekers have goalies Sarah Robertson and Sarah Forbes back this year. Nicole O'shannessy (Old Collegians) is another exciting recruit for Russells Creek. Youngsters to watch include Hannah McGowan, Maddie Drake (Allansford), Sophie Morton and Charlotte Van Der Starre (Creek).
