WDCA under 15s eager to find out what will happen to finals

The competition was thrown into disarray on Friday when Premier Daniel Andrews announced the state-wide five-day coronavirus lockdown.

A WDCA statement said all matches from Saturday to Wednesday were postponed.

The board is hoping to provide an update on Wednesday about future playing days and matches.

The top four under 15 boys sides were to play semi-finals on Sunday but are instead waiting to see what will happen to the finals structure.

The grand final is scheduled for Sunday February 21.

The under 15s played their final round game on Friday evening before the lockdown came into place about midnight.

Koroit's Dakota Davidson summed up the mood of the players.

"I heard about it at school and I didn't really like it because we might not be able to play finals," the 15-year-old said.

The Saints fell to Merrivale/Russells Creek at Victoria Park on Friday.

The away team made 5/106 from 24 overs before the Saints made 7/97 from their 24.

It's a result that could prove crucial if the finals series is altered because Koroit was on top of the ladder going into the final round and Merrivale/Russells Creek was second.

Merrivale/Russells Creek is now first and Koroit has gone back to third.

Dakota is keen to see what the WDCA's next update will be.

"I want to play finals and see if we can win the flag," he said.

The teenager, who bats at number four and sometimes opens, has yet to be part of a premiership with the Saints.

His top score of 43 in the under 15s this season was against Nestles/Northern Raiders in round nine.

The left-hand finger spinner has also taken a handful of wickets across his stints in the under 15s, under 17s and division three this summer.

He's also a keen footballer and resumed training with his Koroit under 16s team in recent weeks.
