BAILEY Delaney has spent more time in medical wards during the past few months than most people would see in a lifetime, but the plucky seven-year-old owes his health to medical staff at Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Since being diagnosed with extensive soft tissue cancer last year, he has been under specialist care involving numerous trips from his Timboon district home.
He is now in the 24th week of a 54-week chemotherapy treatment plan which may be followed by a radiotheraphy course.
Yet he still manages a smile and keeps a bright outlook.
Bailey is among 10,000 children who underwent surgery at the RCH last year. Next weekend, volunteers from around the state will be out and about collecting for the annual Good Friday Appeal which last year achieved a record $15,560,000 in pledges and donations to keep the hospital at the forefront.
Bailey’s parents, Mark and Joanne Delaney, are among the thousands of parents who have endorsed the huge fund-raising effort which helps their children.
“Doctors and nurses at the RCH do an amazing effort,” Mr Delaney told The Standard.
“We are very appreciative of the service and urge people to help the appeal.
“There are so many children with sad stories who have been made well at the hospital.
“Our first trip down there was a week after his initial diagnosis.
“He’s hung in through all the treatment there — an amazing little boy.”
The appeal has been running since 1931.
