Warrnambool Touch Football to return with round-robin

"It feels great, actually almost a bit unbelievable," he said.

"From the start of the year, we had no idea what was going to happen and how it would affect the sport."

WTF is planning to hold a come 'n' try night 6pm on Monday November 23 before a three-week round-robin competition before Christmas.

The final night is December 14 and it's all at Deakin University in Warrnambool.

Senchenko said four or five teams had already registered and it would be fantastic to get more.

The sport consists of two 20-minute halves with six players on the field at one time.

Senchenko said an ideal team would be 8-10 players.

"It's a great way to get back into the community and into sport again after a tricky year," he said.

"We welcome returning and new players to come along, throw a ball around and have a run.

"The first night will be a come 'n' try where we welcome anyone along and we will hold coaching sessions for new players.

"Touch football is similar to rugby league, only without tackling so it is a very non to low-contact sport that is easy to learn.

"Our game is mixed, fun and social, with three males and three females on the field per team at a time, with juniors (13 and under) able to sub out for a female player."

Senchenko explained WTF was acting on the advice of Touch Football Victoria and was waiting on regional Victoria to progress to the last step of the state's coronavirus roadmap for reopening.

Organised contact sports resume for all ages, with limitations for spectators, under that step.

He said WTF could have started juniors earlier - as outdoor contact sport is allowed for those 18 and under - but he said the club elected to wait until people of all ages could participate.

Senchenko said the club would be following strict return to play guidelines which can be found on WTF's Facebook page.
