The opener set up his side's emphatic 149-run win over Camperdown on Saturday with a stunning innings of 97 from 128 balls.
Harkness, who has 148 runs from his three innings so far this season, credited a recent trip to Ballarat for turning around his form.
"For me it was about working to my gameplan and sticking to that," he said of Saturday's innings.
"I was disappointed to come up three short but that is cricket for you. I was just sticking to my plan and staying focused, switching on and off throughout the innings.
"I've had a poor 12 months with the bat but it was good to be back in the runs.

"I'm feeling good as I went away to Ballarat to get a bit of coaching and they helped me simplify it and now I'm in some good form and a good mental space."
Harkness is pleased with how his bowling unit was progressing.
"We are still trying to nail our bowling plans and it will take time because we have a young team," he said.
"We are still trying to work on our brand and we slip off the plan a little but we do come back a lot quicker.
"Our versatility is our strength. We have eight or nine guys who can bowl to a good standard and it's helpful with the shortened games."
Harkness praised the performances of Adam Doak (1-15), Paul Vogels (2-3) and Brody Mahoney (1-16).
