After five years at the helm of the board, Kerry Nelson is handing over the reigns to Mrs Cassidy after having spent about a year mentoring her for the position.
Ms Cassidy, who has just finished her first term on Warrnambool City Council, said she was really excited to be taking on the role.
"We are going into exciting times. We've got some great development happening over the next couple of years and I'm really excited to be a part of it," she said.
"It's great not just for Warrnambool but it's great for the region."
Chief executive officer Doreen Power said about 18 months ago the board had started succession planning and around that time Mrs Cassidy was elected as the incoming chair.
"For the last year she has been mentored by Kerry Nelson," Ms Power said.
"The process will be completed after the AGM at our first board meeting.
"It's what Lyndoch needs to move into the future."
The annual general meeting was held on Tuesday night.
Ms Nelson will stay on as the vice-chair to continue her mentoring role. She said her five years heading the Lyndoch board had been an invaluable and incredibly rewarding experience.
"I couldn't be more proud of Lyndoch's many achievements during this time," she said.
Ms Power said the changes planned at Lyndoch Living would move the facility to a more social model.
"Everything I've done is really about ageism and really respecting the dignity and choice of our residents," she said. "We have to respect our elders.
"I'm quite comfortable where we are heading and to be a leader, a trailblazer in that area because it's really important."
Ms Power said there was a sense of excitement around what was happening at Lyndoch and the changes that were being implemented.
