374 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Victoria in the past 24 hours - the second largest daily increase in the state since the pandemic began.

There are also three more deaths due to the virus, raising the total to 42. Three women in their 100s, 90s and 80s died in the last 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 62 are linked to known and contained outbreaks and 312 are under investigation.

On Tuesday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews applauded the amount of people wearing masks in the community.
Masks will be mandatory in Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire from Thursday.
"It is heartening to see people listening to those messages and embedding face mask wearing as part of the daily routine," he said
"It makes a significant contribution given the amount of virus we have out in the Victorian community."
An update on the number of cases in south-west local government areas will be announced later today.
Currently there are 174 people being treated in hospital for the illness and 36 of those are receiving intensive care.
Stage 3 "Stay at Home" restrictions remain in force across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire. There are only four reasons for people to leave their homes: shopping for food and essential items; care and caregiving; daily exercise; and work and study.
