Petherick, 24, is tipped to work closely with former captain Cam Williams and vice-skipper Jimmy Elford this Warrnambool and District Cricket Association season.
Creek won two premierships under Williams' guidance but wanted to introduce a fresh voice to reinvigorate its troops.
Petherick said the trio would convene regularly to discuss ideas on-field.
"I have big boots to fill. It's more just a fresh voice and a bit of a changing of the guard," he told The Standard.
"It's pretty much going to be a three-way captaincy. We'll also have (coach Andrew Thomson) putting his ideas in too.
"But we're a leadership group first and foremost and we'll bounce ideas off one another."
Petherick said he favoured an attacking style of cricket.
He said Creek had retained most of its list and was expecting strong seasons from both Williams and all-rounder Tim Ryan.
"I do like an attacking brand but I think it's really important everyone is happy playing their cricket," Petherick said.
"That goes a long way to winning games. We want to be happy and giving everyone an opportunity.
"But we want to be attacking and ruthless where we can."
Petherick said more opportunities were likely for the Jetty Flat-based club's young talent, including junior Ryan Barnes.
