Warrnambool supersport racer Ted Collins unsure if 2020 season should re-start

The Warrnambool racer competed in round one at Phillip Island in February before coronavirus restrictions came into force.

Rounds two and three, according to the official website, are postponed and round four, which was scheduled for Western Australia, cancelled.

Collins, who features in the supersport 600 class, said the three remaining rounds were in Queensland and Victoria.

The series finale is pencilled in for Phillip Island in early October.

Collins, 20, conceded "we haven't heard anything yet" and he was unsure if the season should resume.

"We're waiting to see what they do," he said. "At the moment we'd be in a break anyway (until August).

"Honestly, the way it's going, they could nearly not have this season and start again next year because at the moment it's going to be so hard for everyone.

"Some people aren't working so the money's not there."

The apprentice carpenter, who was on the comeback trail from a series of injuries, said he wanted to know "as soon as possible" so he could determine his next move.

Collins said if the season did re-start he would prefer to complete the remaining rounds instead of rescheduling earlier meets.

"Just try and get where we're up to because it's so expensive that it's hard to find that extra money with less time as well," he said.

"That is the main thing, trying to find the funding, to actually do it."

Collins is missing competition but got to do the next best thing recently.

"We actually got to ride at Winton last Monday, so that was really good just to get a ride but obviously it's not racing," he said.

"One of my old mechanics managed to get in touch with the right kind of people to hire the track. We had a private day."

Collins finished eighth in round one. He was the first Suzuki rider behind seven Yamaha bikes.

"It wasn't ideal. We hadn't had the right amount of preparation. Our goal was to get better as the season went on," he said.
