VICTORIA's top greyhound racing body is unsure if the $47,000-to-the-winner Warrnambool Cup will run as scheduled in May.

A statement from Greyhound Racing Victoria said the fate of the cup meeting, which traditionally runs in the same week as the Warrnambool Racing Club's May Carnival, was yet to be decided.
It comes after Warrnambool Racing Club on Wednesday announced its three-day carnival would revert to two in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, ending more than a century of tradition.
A Greyhound Racing Victoria spokesman said racing would press on but the body was carefully following government advice.

"All Victorian greyhound race meetings are continuing as scheduled, including at Warrnambool in May, however, a decision on whether or not the Warrnambool Cup will be held in May is still to be decided," he said.
"GRV will continue racing until advised otherwise by the Chief Health Officer and government."
Strict precautions - including no spectators, no children on course and social distancing - meant greyhound racing was allowed to continue at Wannon Park and around the state.
The club's busy function centre and bistro were also closed to lessen coronavirus risks.
Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club general manager Craig Monigatti said last month mechanics had been changed on course to keep people "apart and socially distanced".
