From today, the MHS' Port Fairy campus will be accessible by the public through only one location.
The entrance to the hospital has been closed to the public with everyone attending the facility asked to enter through the community health building.
Anyone arriving at the community health building will be screened by MHS staff.
They will be asked three questions:
- Have you travelled overseas in the last 14 days.
- Have you come in contact with anyone who has COVID-19.
- Are you feeling unwell.
Entry points to MHS' aged care facilities, Moyneyana House and Belfast House, will only be accessible by ringing the doorbell and waiting for a staff member to open the door.
MHS acting chief executive officer Katharina Redford said senior staff members would meet with Moyne Shire Council on Wednesday to see how both organisations could work together to help the community.
She said MHS was meeting regularly with other health services in the region, which included discussions around ensuring supply stocks are maintained.
She said MHS was following the full pandemic plan laid out by both the department of health and human resources and the department of health and aging,
MHS social support groups in Port Fairy and Koroit have been suspended.
Mrs Redford called on the community to stay informed and do what it can to stay healthly.
"People need to keep washing their hands and not to visit the vulnerable or the elderly unless it is really necessary," she said.
"For information, the single truth on this is the department of health and human services so we encourage people to keep an eye on their Facebook page and website."
