The 36-year-old, who recently secured his fifth PGA tour victory at the Farmers Insurance Open, is tied for 34th heading into the final round at Mexico's Club de Golf Chapultepec.
Leishman fired opening rounds of 74 and 70 before fighting back strongly with a 68 to enter the last day at one-under the card.
American star Justin Thomas leads the tournament at 15-under from countrymen Patrick Reed and South African Erik van Rooyen, who are one shot back.

Leishman hit six of 14 fairways and 11 of 18 greens in regulation during his third round.
Youngster Zach Murray, who is in his debut WGC appearance after earning his place in the field via his position on last year's PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit, is the highest-ranked Australian in the field.
The 22-year-old is tied for 15th at four-under with Adam Scott, who last week claimed a drought-breaking PGA Tour win, one shot back in equal-24th.
Leishman, who is the next best Aussie, is set to tea off in the first group at 4.18am on Monday morning.
