James McFadden becomes a five-time World Series Sprintcar winner

The Warrnambool resident stormed home on the final lap of the A-main on Saturday night to edge out Cory Eliason by 0.097 of a second.

Eliason, who had flown in from America to race in the final weekend, secured a win on Friday night with McFadden in second.

The win gifted the Monte Motorsport ace, who secured two series round wins at Premier Speedway and one each at Maryborough and Lismore, his fifth World Series title.

From 12 starts the 2020 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic champion nailed five wins and nine top-five placings to edge out American-based Australians Kerry Madsen and Brooke Tatnell.

It was the 30-year-old's best series, securing one more round win than he did in his last series win in 2017. His other titles came in 2016, '12 and '11.

McFadden entered the final night of the series with a 42-point lead over Madsen before expanding the gap to 64 after a strong quicktime and logging a third and fourth in the heats.

Madsen would end up failing to finish Saturday's finale after sustaining front-end damage. Earlier in the night he battled motor issues in time trials to qualify 16th, which sparked a motor change prior to the heats.

He stormed to a first and third in his heats but was forced to start the feature from 11^th and his night ended early in the finale.

Tatnell, Madsen, Eliason, Donny Schatz, Aaron Reutzel and Brock Hallett all secured round victories across the 12-event series.

Frequent Warrnambool visitor Jock Goodyer took out the Rookie of the Year honours by just three points.
