When Pomborneit's number 11 batsman Brad Hillman walked to the middle, his team was in trouble at 9-75 against Simpson.
The opening bowler had faced one ball this season for a total of one run from four matches.
But by the end of his South West Cricket Association division one innings, he'd helped take his team to a match-winning score.
Hillman scored 53 as he and batting partner Steve Murphy (9 not out) put on a 67-run 10th wicket stand.
"It was really enjoyable," he said of the partnership at Simpson Recreation Reserve.

Hillman said Murphy had returned to club this year and they hadn't played cricket together for a long time.
The good friends, who attended each other's weddings, used to play juniors for the Bulls.
Hillman said he only hit a couple of boundaries during his half-century so they did a lot of running between wickets.
"It was a pretty slow ground so we had to run a lot," he said.
"We were both quite tired last night."
While Hillman and Murphy were brave with the bat, Lahiru Fernando (3-3) and Tharaka Sendanayake (4-13) were impressive with the ball.
Hillman said the Bulls had a goal of restricting the batting team to under two and a half runs per over.
Pomborneit is sitting top-of-table with four wins.
Meanwhile, there were a few significant batting efforts in other matches.
Cobden's Jackson Rock top-scored with 45 as his team chased down Noorat's 212.
Bookaar opener Eddie Lucas hit 64 not out to guide his team to a victory against Terang.
Camperdown opener Jye McLaughlin was 58 not out when his side surpassed Heytesbury Rebels' 108.
