Pomborneit scores handy lead from recent wet weather stretch

But Pomborneit leader Grant Place found a bonus from the south-west's recent wet weather.

The Bulls nabbed an extra six points with a win over Camperdown in round five when half the competition played and the other didn't due to rain.

Place said the victory would do wonders for his side later in the season.

"Any wins you get before Christmas stack up," he said.

"You don't want to be dropping winnable games now because it can haunt you later in the season and we are really focused on winning games before Christmas."

Place said the undefeated Bulls were wary of this weekend's opponents Noorat, which hasn't played since round one due to four abandoned games and a bye.

"They've had a couple of handy inclusions with an English import (Rory Baker) and a family connection moving from South Australia in (Jacob) Fishwick who is a fairly handy cricketer," the top-order bat said.

"We will have to be on top of our game like most weeks as the competition's average standard seems to have risen and each team has improved so there is no easy games."

Place said the Bulls' two Sri Lankan imports - Lahiru Fernando and Tharaka Sendanayake - hadn't missed a beat this season.

"Last year especially Larry struggled with bat early but bowled well," he said.

"He might have struggled playing hard wickets and against different bowlers he hasn't faced before but this year they have hit the ground running."

Fernando has scored 104 and 60 in his opening two innings as well as taking three wickets. Sendanayake has been damaging with the ball taking six wickets in three games.
