But the former Warrnambool Seahawks star and coach feels the one-on-one session with Mason would drive more kids from the East Warrnambool area to give his free program a go when it returns next Thursday.
"He really enjoyed it and he was a bit pumped," Cunningham said about of the East Warrnambool primary students reaction to the session.
"We sort of put him through his paces and it was not something he was used to but I could tell he enjoyed it and his dad did too."

Cunningham, who last ran the program in 2015 before he moved to Adelaide, encouraged more eager young basketballers to join Mason and rock up to the final two sessions of his trial.
"It was basically 'hey let's do this for the area' and these kids don't have to pay a cent," he said of the decision behind restarting the program.
"They have a beautiful facility (at Wavelinks Park) and court that is not being used so let's use it.
"If we get the numbers I will treat it like a big skills session with drills and then some games at the end.
"It takes skills to bounce a ball and then more to run and bounce so if we get our skills up and then the game is more enjoyable when you know how to play."
STREETBALL, which is supported by South West Sport, will start at 5pm at Wavelinks Park on Armstrong Grove next Thursday and then again on December 12.
Cunningham said his level of commitment would rise with the more kids who showed interest in joining the program.
He added that he would heavily consider extending the program beyond its trial period if numbers rose.
