Alana and Isaac Johnson debut at ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships

The Warrnambool Kayak Club members represented Australia at the championships, which took place in the city of Shaoxing, while also preparing for university exams.

Alana, 20, who is studying medicine at Monash in Melbourne, finished 12^th out of 22 competitors in the under 23 singles race.

She was just ahead of fellow Australian Hannah Scott, who also finished behind the south-west export at the Australian titles.

Isaac, 22, who is studying science at Melbourne University, crossed the finish line in the 22-competitor open doubles event with partner and fellow Victorian Hamish Young in 17^th.

Ben - Alana and Isaac's father - said he was proud of how they did at their first world championships.

"It's very exciting and humbling to really see them involved in it," he said. "Obviously they've worked pretty worked hard over the year to go to it and have now achieved some good results."

Ben said the pair will take a break from training when they return to Australia.

"Initially they will take about a month break or so as it has been the peak end of the season," he said.

"So they will give the body a rest in time for the surf life saving season and then start preparing for Australian Marathon titles, which are in Geelong next year in April."
