Grace Brown withdraws from UCI World Championships, citing injury

The 27-year-old announced on social media she wouldn't be contesting the individual time-trial at the championships in Yorkshire, which began on Sunday, after failing to recover in time.

"I've been a bit quiet about my crash in Norway and the recovery since," Brown wrote in an Instagram post.

"Mainly because I haven't been sure of how it would affect the end of my season. I was really rattled by the accident.

"A pile up on a gravel section sent me flying into a big ditch on the side of the road. My chest hit the chain ring of a bike, fracturing at least four ribs and collapsing my lung.

"Something also took a epic slice to my forearm.I was in hospital for two days with a chest drain and barely moved for a week because of the pain.

"I had to make a call to withdraw from the world's road race pretty early, but made a return to the bike to keep the hope alive for the individual time-trial.

"Once I was able to push hard enough for some solid efforts, I was surprised with the form I'd retained. But in this final week we had to make the tough call that it probably isn't enough for a top performance."

The Mitchelton-SCOTT team rider was also booked to ride in the road race to help 2018 silver medallist Amanda Sprattin in her quest to secure the world champion's rainbow jersey.
