The final report, which was approved at a commission meeting on Tuesday August 13, has resulted in Portland Junior Football Association and Hamilton Kangaroos Junior Football League merging to form the Great South West Junior Football League.

The league will have under 14 and 16.5 competitions as well as under 11 competitions in Portland and Hamilton to improve the transition from Auskick into club football.
The report recommended representatives of the AFL Western District, PJFA and HKJFA join a new advisory committee of seven to govern the GSWJFL.
AFL Western District's South West Junior Review was commissioned in May to review the health and sustainability of junior football in the region.
The review panel consulted with Hamilton Kangaroos Junior Football League, the Portland Junior Football Association, the South West District Advisory Committee and their affiliated clubs as well as the Board of the Mininera District Football League.
