The 35-year-old finished tied 19th at the BMW Championship after firing consecutive five-under rounds of 67 to finish this year's edition of the tournament he won in 2017.
The Warrnambool export is now ranked 21st out of 30 based on the Fedex Cup points list heading into the Tour Championship, where $US 60 million in prizemoney is on the line.
The PGA Tour changed the format for the tournament to a handicap system with the top ranked player on the standings, Justin Thomas, will begin the week at 10-under par, the second seed at eight-under and working back from there.

As the 13th ranked player Scott will start at three-under while Leishman starts at one-under, meaning they are already seven and nine shots behind Thomas before a ball is hit.
The pair will also join Cameron Smith in the international team which will take on the United States at the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne from December.
Newcomers in 2018 Australian Open champion Mexico's Abraham Ancer, Taipei's CT Pan, China's Haotong Li along with experienced heads Japan's Hideki Matsuyama and South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen will play with the trio.
The prestigious event runs from December 12-15 at Royal Melbourne, which previously hosted in 1998 and 2011.
