Warrnambool basketballer Nathan Sobey picked for 2019 FIBA World Cup

The Brisbane Bullets recruit was announced in the Boomers' team on Wednesday.

Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis said the squad had high expectations for the August 31 to September 15 competition in China.

"I think we're so fortunate to have players who are so committed to the green and gold, love playing for their country and are proud Australians; proud to represent Australian basketball on the world stage," he said.

"You can feel the spirit in the group. They wanna go and do something special.

"There's certainly unfinished business in Rio (2016 Olympics). We haven't medalled yet as an international event in the men's game, so there's certainly a mission to get that done."

Sobey is one of four NBL-listed players in the Australian team, joining Brisbane teammate Cameron Gliddon, Melbourne United's Chris Goulding and Perth Wildcats' Nick Kay.

Mitch Creek, who had earned NBA minutes this year, was a surprise omission from the squad, as were Brock Motum and Adel Deng.
