The third film from Warrnambool actor Dan Haberfield has seen him 'step up and become a big boy' taking on four different roles in the production.
The Demon is the third film written by Haberfield, but the first where he is taking on the combined roles of lead actor, director and producer.
"It was super daunting to start with," Haberfield said.
"I initially had the same guy who directed my two previous short films on-board, but he signed on to do a feature film and his time had to be directed at that.
"During that process I felt I had to step up and take on the responsibility myself.
"It's been the biggest effort that I have had."
Haberfield started writing the script three years ago, and shot the family drama in Melbourne over five days in July 2018.
"The Demon is a 20 minute short film about a dishevelled former boxing champ trying to reunite with his family and fight his way back into the ring," he said
"I cast my niece Dayna in the role of my daughter in the film and she was growing up way to fast so I needed to shoot the film before she got too old for the role."
"The Demon character is estranged from his family, but he still has a close connection with his daughter
"Having a really close connection with my own niece means we can make an authentic connection onscreen.
"This film is a family drama where we use boxing as a vehicle to take the story forward.
"It is a drama, but there is a bit of light in the film."
The Demon will premier at Warrnambool's Capitol Theatre on July 25. Tickets are available via the film's website, www.thedemonshortfilm.com.
