A curator of cultural engagement will be contracted for the WAG Maar Nation gallery, made possible by a $46,405 grant from the state government.
The curator will receive mentorship from the Maar Nation steering committee of Aboriginal Elders & Cultural leaders.
Gallery staff and will lead the development of programs and exhibitions that preserve, share and promote understanding of the First Peoples culture of south-west Victoria.
The WAG is one in six regional galleries to share in almost $200,000 for activities that aim to build connection across the community.
"From new staff members to new events, it's wonderful to see how regional arts venues are building connections and working to ensure they are inviting and inspiring places for the whole community," Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said.
"Victoria is the creative state and these grants will shape new opportunities for creative participation and expression in regional Victoria."
